Helping the Children of Africa

NOTE: This post isn't intended to bash parents in Uganda but to simply point out the  incredibly large differences in how kids are handled and how usually their best  interests aren't considered. Most of this is due to Ignorance because the parents aren't educated.  They end up making the worst possible choices for their kids and our program and the kids suffer because of this.  Many times over these 6 years of an official "Sponsorship program"  we've seen parents pick an expensive school (not on our list of chosen schools) and move their child to it without our knowledge or consent.  May 25, 17   10:56 am  Then they try and stick us with the bill which is higher than  any schools we've chosen. So even when parents agree to pay the difference  whatever that may amount to (usually $30-$50 more a term per child ) and 90 % of the time  parents fail to even $5 or sometimes nothing at all . April 2, 2017 4:33 pm We've had so many illness within our org recently. Kids getting sick , parents being injured on motorbikes, many people getting malaria from the rainy season. One child with HIV is very sick right now and needs to be hospitalized but we've always tried to use $100 of a child's school fee for that certain student. Funds can't be prioritized for other more urgent things If a family loses a house (and typical rent for our families per month is $10-$50) and we could help them for a month or 2 to get settled. Some families have emergency food needs So if anyone would like to donate to this fund this would be great. The needs are so vast and can't be covered through monthly sponsorship (which is tuition and meals only) If someone doesn't want to help a child monthly why not give an occasional gift of $10 or $20 Typical hospital costs range from $20-$100 this is far from what a poor Ugandan family can afford. 3-3-15   11:20 a m  Now we raise funds for food to hand out in the 2 villages. Last Dec we helped 90 kids plus their parents & siblings with food.... Most  families cannot afford to buy any clothing for their children even if its at the cost of a dollar or less when they make only $2 a day. Let's make sure some of these clothes get in the hands of those who need them most.

9:43 am   Oct 30 , 2014 We have successfully raised enough for our Clothing bundle and bags of 6  food items for each village. Thanks Sponsors & Donors. Now the kids will have a good Christmas along with other family not yet helped by our program. Atleast 50 others will receive a food basket along with the along with nearly 50 other families who have kids sponsored by us. We will bring some joy to a very hurting land reaching several hundred kids and adults.                                       

Oct 17th , 2013 7:46pm    After our trip earlier this month to UG we have registered some new kids as part of our program. They are part of a very poor village and they have never had a chance to get a sponsor until now. We need your support to ensure that every new child gets a sponsor to help cover their school fees and supplies! June 5, 8:20pm So many kids need help to attend Secondary School in Uganda. Fees vary from $100-$180 per term there to get a high school education. Will you consider helping a child further their education so they don't drop out when primary school ends. Feb 18, 11:23 am I remember the little girl at school who hung her head when I said where is your bed. Another child said "She doesn't have one". She showed me her mattress that she puts on the dorm floor each night just like several of the other girls. They sleep 2  people to each twin size mattress. Sometimes more. She has no home and no family that wanted her. They were tired of her so she lives permanently at school until finishing grade 7 when she can move on to high school. There are so many kids like her. One's who need attention no matter their age. Even the teenage boys at the school liked playing with hot wheels cars and they always asked a lot of questions about their sponsors. It's hard to be a kid when there are no adults who can give advice and encouragement to them daily. It's a hard culture to live in also when kids aren't treated as the important people they are. March 5,2012 7:40pm So MANY KIDS Still need a sponsor. About 50 new kids joined New Victory School in January so they along with about 100 others need a sponsor so they can get an education and 2 meals a day. The cost is only $15 a month. Click on our Yellow DONATE button which takes you to pay pal. These kids are so needy. Most of them have only 1 parent and a lot live with Aunt's Uncles, or grandparents. Those who live with relatives typically aren't treated very well. They are denied education and even food, clothes etc. Most relatives don't want to raise an orphan that's not their own. Some of the kids live in small mud huts and a typical house has only 1 or 2 rooms shared by the whole family. If they have beds 2 or 3 kids share or they sleep on the floor on a straw mat.
